No-Entry-Inspired Plasmonic Sensor for Six-Alcohol Discrimination and Refractive Index Sensing in a Compact MIM Waveguide

چکیده :
A compact plasmonic metal–insulator–metal (MIM) waveguide sensor with a novel structure inspiring an “No- Entry” road sign has been designed and numerically investigated for dual functionality in refractive index (RI) and alcohol concentration detection. The optimization of proposed structure is conducted through finite difference time domain (FDTD) simulations. Key structural parameters are tuned to exploit a sharp second Fano resonance dip, enabling high spectral resolution in a subwavelength footprint. Maximum RI sensitivity of 1535.3 nm/RIU, with a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 22.94 nm, with figure of merit (FOM) of 68.07 are achieved. The proposed sensor demonstrated a linear wavelength shift over a RI range of 1.00–1.08 and exhibited strong selectivity in distinguishing six alcohol types based on their refractive indices, surpassing the spectral discrimination capabilities of comparable MIM based designs. Comparative benchmarking confirmed the proposed architecture’s superiority in combining high sensitivity, narrow linewidth, and multi analyte detection within a compact, fabrication friendly configuration. These results suggest a promising platform for integrated photonic sensing in biochemical, environmental, and industrial applications.
