Design and Optimization of a 1‑GHz Folded-Cascode OTA Using the gm/ID Technique With Layout Considerations

چکیده :
This paper presents the design and optimization of a 1 GHz fully differential folded cascode operational transconductance amplifier (OTA) in 180 nm CMOS technology, targeting robust performance for advanced analog and mixed-signal applications. The design is based on gm/ID methodology with precomputed lookup tables to enable systematic transistor sizing and early analytical optimization, while layout-aware considerations are incorporated to mitigate parasitic effects and ensure matching of devices for post-layout performance. The proposed OTA includes a constant-gm bias circuit and a common-mode feedback (CMFB) network, with detailed design and optimization flow for the full circuit. Post-layout simulation demonstrates that the OTA achieves a unity-gain bandwidth of 1 GHz, 73.93° phase margin, and stable operation across process, voltage and temperature (PVT) corners, indicated the effectiveness of the approach for high-speed analog design.
